Reviews & Edge Retention Tests   New For 2021

M390 is one of the new super steels on the block, manufactured by Bohler-Uddeholm (result of merger of Austrian Bohler and Swedish Uddeholm). It uses third generation powder metal technology and developed for knife blades requiring excellent corrosion resistance and very high hardness for excellent wear resistance.

Out of a score of 10 M390 is a 9 for blade steel and for ease of sharpening scores a 2 because it is supposedly hard to sharpen .

 A) TwoSun TS221 was not hard to sharpen ! My diamond ate it no problems .

 B) Supposedly has great edge holding ! My TS221 rates around 420c / 440c for edge holding .  ( Yeah , rates with budget steel )

What is there to complain about besides the horribly disappointing blade steel performance ? Where they put the hump in the blade , irritating as all hell if your doing a lot of cutting . Also the knife is not super controllable close to my fingers and it tried several times to bite me . At this time I see nothing different with TwoSun to separate it from other Chinese knife makers , all having Quality Control issues . ( putting bad blades on knives ) So buying a knife in 2021 remains as much a lottery as it did in 2020 . You might get something good , or you might get something rubbish . So very much buyer beware !  And if you don't test and compare ? You can be blissfully happy in your ignorance of the reality of your purchase . I guess there is comfort in not knowing !
